Electrical shading effect

Whether a shaded string also loses the direct light the shadow does not cover

What it is

Selects whether a shadow only removes the light it covers, or also removes the direct light on the whole string it reaches.

Typical values and how to get it

Linear suits module-level electronics (microinverters, DC optimizers), where a shaded module does not pull the rest of the string down. Electrical suits string inverters on rows without a scene. It reads the strings on one rack and their layout (array.string_steps, array.string_layout, array.cell_traverse_m). String partitions suits string inverters on a scene shaded by its own projection. It reads each scene type's strings and layout, and the strings named by placements. Sub-module I-V curves suits string inverters on a scene shaded by its own projection, where a shadow on part of a module changes its current: it also reads the module record's cells, twin half cells and sides, and the inverter's MPPT minimum voltage. Chosen on the Model tab.

Values

Linear (irradiance only) = linear (default): a shadow removes only the light it covers · Electrical (by string strip) = electrical: a string the shadow reaches on a row also loses the direct light on the rest of it · String partitions, PVsyst application = strings_partition: a string of a scene table that a shadow touches loses its direct light · Sub-module I-V curves, PVsyst application = module_layout: each string's current-voltage curve from the shade on its sub-modules, at the inverter's MPPT minimum
