What it is

How the strings on one rack divide its rectangle. Stacked across the width, each string runs the length of the rack and a shadow climbing the rack reaches the low string first. Side by side along the length, each string spans the whole width and a shadow on the row reaches every one of them.

Typical values and how to get it

Stacked across for fixed racks with a low and a high string. Side by side along the length for trackers with one to four strings along the axis. If not given: across: the strings are stacked across the width.
