Threshold on the plane global

The plane irradiance below which a timestep counts as dark

Unit W/m²

What it is

The global irradiance on the module plane below which a timestep is treated as dark. It is compared with the plane irradiance after transposition: the sum of the direct, diffuse and ground-reflected light on the tilted plane, before any shading.

Typical values and how to get it

Values from 0 to 10 W/m² are usual; the default is 7 W/m². The number is a modelling convention with no datasheet or measured source. At 0 W/m² no timestep is zeroed, the same as switching the threshold off on the Model tab. The field accepts 0 to 50 W/m².

How it is applied

Ginc={GtrpGtrp≥Gthr0Gtrp<GthrG_{\text{inc}} = \begin{cases} G_{\text{trp}} & G_{\text{trp}} \ge G_{\text{thr}} \\ 0 & G_{\text{trp}} < G_{\text{thr}} \end{cases}

where

Symbol Meaning Unit
GincG_{\text{inc}} the plane irradiance passed on to the later steps W/m²
GtrpG_{\text{trp}} the plane irradiance after transposition W/m²
GthrG_{\text{thr}} this input W/m²
