Power

The battery's power rating

Unit kW

What it is

The largest power the battery delivers, in kilowatts: AC power at the grid connection with AC coupling, DC power at the inverter input with DC coupling. The power taken to charge is capped at the rating divided by the charge efficiency.

Typical values and how to get it

The rating of the battery's power conversion system, from its datasheet. The right-size rule on the Battery storage page gives half the system AC nameplate as a starting value.

How it is applied

di ηd≤Pbat,ci≤Pbatηcd_i\,\eta_d \le P_{bat}, \qquad c_i \le \frac{P_{bat}}{\eta_c}

where

Symbol Meaning Unit
did_i the power drawn from the cells at timestep ii kW
ηd\eta_d the discharge efficiency —
PbatP_{bat} this rating kW
cic_i the power taken to charge at timestep ii kW
ηc\eta_c the charge efficiency —
