Thermal loss factor Uv (wind)

Extra heat loss per unit of wind speed

Unit W/(m²·K) per m/s

What it is

The part of the module's heat-loss factor that grows with wind speed, in watts per square metre per kelvin per metre per second of wind. The Prilliman and Faiman models use it; the NOCT model does not.

Typical values and how to get it

0 W/(m²·K) per m/s with a constant factor of 29 W/(m²·K), or 1.2 W/(m²·K) per m/s with a constant factor of 25 W/(m²·K) for a measured fit with wind. If not given: 0 W/(m²·K) per m/s.

How it is applied

T=Tamb+a G (1−η)Uc+Uv vT = T_{amb} + \frac{a\,G\,(1 - \eta)}{U_c + U_v\,v}

where

Symbol Meaning Unit
TT the cell temperature °C
TambT_{amb} the ambient temperature °C
aa the absorptivity —
GG the effective irradiance on the module plane W/m²
η\eta the module efficiency: its operating value with Prilliman, its rated value with Faiman —
UcU_c the constant heat-loss factor W/(m²·K)
UvU_v this input W/(m²·K) per m/s
vv the wind speed of the weather file m/s
