Model step
Medium-voltage transformer
Step-up transformer at each inverter
Inputs used: MV transformer: no-load (iron) loss, MV transformer: load (copper) loss at STC, Night disconnect, Model the MV transformer
What it is
Each inverter feeds a step-up transformer that raises its low AC voltage to the medium voltage of the collection system. The transformer loses power in two ways. The iron loss magnetises the core and is drawn as long as the transformer is connected, whatever the load. The copper loss heats the windings and grows with the square of the current. On a utility-scale system the two together cost about 1 % of the annual energy. The figure shows the transformer at each inverter and the point where its row is counted.
Options
- Iron and copper losses: iron and copper losses of the transformer at each inverter
- Do not model: no MV transformer losses, with the entered fractions kept on the Losses tab
