Model step
Power factor
Reactive power: the inverter ceiling and AC losses at the power factor
Inputs used: Power factor, Nameplate is apparent, Power factor row
What it is
An inverter that delivers reactive power runs at a power factor below 1. Its apparent-power ceiling then allows less active power, and every AC cable and transformer carries more current for the same active power. This step chooses where the loss diagram shows that cost: inside the clipping and resistive rows, or in one row after the AC losses.
Options
- Inside the inverter and AC rows: the cost stays inside the clipping and resistive rows
- Own row: the cost of the power factor in one row after the AC losses
