Reference / Module model

Model option

Mermoud one-diode

The one-diode circuit of Mermoud and Lejeune, with a shunt resistance that rises at low irradiance

Inputs used: Module model, Module efficiency, Nameplate power, Short-circuit current, Open-circuit voltage, Series resistance, Shunt resistance at reference irradiance, Pmax temperature coefficient, Cells in series

Method

The module is a current source in parallel with a diode and a shunt resistance, followed by a series resistance in series with the output (1). The photocurrent, the saturation current and the ideality factor at standard conditions are solved from the short-circuit current, the open-circuit voltage and a third point that the One-diode STC point step sets, with the series and shunt resistances from the module file. The photocurrent follows the irradiance and the temperature coefficient of the short-circuit current (2). The shunt resistance rises as the irradiance falls (3). The ideality factor drifts with the temperature (4), and the saturation current follows a temperature law with the bandgap, with a floor of 2.07 × 10⁻¹⁴ A (5). The maximum-power point is found exactly on the curve at every timestep.
