pvperfsolar performance modeling

Reference / Cell temperature

Model option

Faiman

Faiman's heat balance with the rated efficiency and no thermal lag

Inputs used: Thermal loss factor Uc (constant), Thermal loss factor Uv (wind), Absorptivity, Thermal inertia, Module unit mass, NOCT standoff adjustment, SAPM coefficient a, SAPM coefficient b, SAPM ΔT, CEC database parameters, Racking type, Ambient temperature, Wind speed

Method

The cell temperature is the ambient temperature plus the absorbed irradiance, less the share converted at the rated efficiency, divided by the sum of the constant and wind heat-loss factors (1). Each timestep uses its own weather, with no lag for the heat capacity of the module.

The math

T=Tamb+a G (1−ηSTC)Uc+Uv v(1)T = T_{amb} + \frac{a\,G\,(1 - \eta_{STC})}{U_c + U_v\,v} \tag{1}

where

Symbol Meaning Unit
TT the cell temperature °C
TambT_{amb} the ambient temperature °C
aa the absorptivity: the fraction of the light the module absorbs —
GG the effective irradiance on the modules W/m²
ηSTC\eta_{STC} the module efficiency at standard test conditions —
UcU_c the constant heat-loss factor W/(m²·K)
UvU_v the wind heat-loss factor W/(m²·K) per m/s
vv the wind speed m/s
