Model option

Sub-module I-V curves, PVsyst application

Each string's current-voltage curve from the shade on its sub-modules, at the inverter's MPPT minimum

Inputs used: Strings on one rack, String layout, Cell height along the slope, Fraction for electrical effect, Device strings, Device string layout, Placement string, Twin half-cell layout, Cells in series, Cell strings in parallel, Width, Length (height), MPPT window minimum

Method

Each table of the scene carries its modules on an even grid that fills it edge to edge. The grid's rows across the width and its module orientation are the pair whose width-to-length ratio is nearest the table's, from the module's long-to-short side ratio, portrait first on a tie. A module holds 3 sub-modules side by side across its short side, each running its long side and protected by one bypass diode. A module of twin half cells holds two halves along its long side. The two sub-modules of one diode work in parallel. Six cells cross a module's short side. Its long side holds the cells in series times the cells in parallel over 6. Each sub-module is tested at its four corners, set half a cell in from its lower and upper edges. A corner counts as shaded under the shadow of a neighbouring table or of an object, or under a tree line that blocks at least half the direct light. A string is a run of a table's modules, taken column by column for strings side by side along the length and row by row for strings stacked across the width. The placements that name one string form that string. At each step with at least 5 W/m² of direct light on the plane, the field's strings are grouped by the shade on their sub-modules. The step counts when the shaded corners cover from 1 % to 98 % of the strings' modules, a quarter of a sub-module for each corner. A sub-module with 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4 shaded corners has none, 10 %, a third, two thirds or all of its cells at the shaded irradiance. A lit cell receives the direct light, the ring around the sun, the diffuse light and the ground reflection on the plane after their shading, the incidence-angle loss and soiling. A shaded cell receives the diffuse light and the ground reflection. Each cell follows the module's one-diode curve at the step's cell temperature, scaled to one cell of one branch. Under reverse voltage it follows the quadratic reverse characteristic. The cells of a sub-module add their voltages. The sub-modules of one diode share its current. The diode keeps the group's voltage above the negative of its forward voltage. The modules of a string add their voltages. The strings of one MPPT input add their currents. The input works at its highest power at or above the inverter's MPPT minimum voltage. A string on an input of its own finds its own highest power. The shaded power over the power of the same strings unshaded, less the beam shaded fraction, gives the electrical loss as a share of the direct light and the ring around the sun. The electrical shading row applies it to the module power before the electrical row. The row is computed only on steps where a sub-module corner is in shade. If not given: every module has 3 bypass diodes. A module with twin half cells has 2 cells in parallel.
